Gerald Hardy (American, b.1938). Large vintage Mid-Century Modern abstract oil painting. On canvas with wood back, with thin tiered modern frame, heavy impasto texture, with swirling black and red colors and speckles of brighter colors. Signed lower right “Hardy”, dated and titled en verso 1969 “Splash Movement”. Measures 49.5in x 37.5in. Excellent vintage condition.
Gerald Hardy was born in Melrose Park, IL in 1938. In 1960, he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and at the Art Institute’s summer program, Oxbow. Hardy exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Illinois State Museum. His work can be found in the collections of the Birmingham Museum of Art, Birmingham, AL and the Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC. The artist currently resides in Falls Village, CT.
