Gerald Hardy (American, b.1938). Vintage Mid-Century Modern abstract oil painting. On canvas stretched over wood with thin tiered modern frame. Heavy impasto texture, the artist skillfully used various types of textural mixed medias to give the piece a lot of depth and character. Depicts an abstracted figure falling, titled en verso Creation of Adam. Signed lower right “Hardy”, dated and titled en verso 1969 1970. Measures 17.5in x 13.33in. Excellent vintage condition.
Gerald Hardy was born in Melrose Park, IL in 1938. In 1960, he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and at the Art Institute’s summer program, Oxbow. Hardy exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Illinois State Museum. His work can be found in the collections of the Birmingham Museum of Art, Birmingham, AL and the Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC. The artist currently resides in Falls Village, CT.
